Smart Telecom- the third operator to get nation wide universal license, is known to be the fastest growing telecom company in Nepal. According to a recent survey ( Economic survey 2069/70 from Ministry of Finance), Smart Telecom has increased its customers by around 85% in the eighth months of the previous fiscal year which is the highest among all operators in Nepal. Branding as Smart Cell, their GSM service has given access to isolated geographical terrain of the country, gaining 3 percent of the total market share.
According to CEO Abraham Smith of the company, they have already invested 3 billion in extending their network and they will be continuing their investment to provide best quality network in affordable rates. He also summarized some of the CSR project works to support people and communities in need like Kailali flood victims, Sulikot Ghayn Monastery (Sindupalchowk), Setidevi primary School and Garvasi Lower secondary School.
He further added. “For sure Nepal will benefit from having Smart Telecom as a third nationwide operator, as with the strong commitment to a long-term investment Smart Telecom can bring a new positive changes to the industry and market where the price and quality will be in line with Nepali people requirements. We believe that with support of our customers and our board, Smart Telecom can bring a lot of positive changes in life of Nepali people, as we did it already in areas where we have coverage”.
Though Smart Telecom is awarded the nation wide unified license, they cannot operate their network in the whole of Nepal due to the stay order from Supreme Court concerning writ petitions against the NTA decision made when there was no Chairman. It seems it will take more time to get the full decision from the court which hinders NTA plan to bring a new operator through unified license policy.
