Dec 9, 2013: Nepal Telecom has launched student offer for its Namaste 3G prepaid SIM. With the offer, students are entitled to get Namaste 3G sim at Rs 100, having talk time value worth of Rs 100. The offer is known to be valid from Mangsir 24 (Monday, Dec 9) to Mangsir 28 (Friday, Dec 13), during which students can get the 3G sim from selected NT counters namely Sundhara counter, Chabahil counter, Babarmahal counter, Gongabu counter, Chauni counter, and Pulchowk counter. The documents required for the 3G Sim are Student identity card, 1 copy of Passport size photo and 1 copy of Citizenship card or parents citizenship card if the student does not have his/her own citizenship certificate.
What is Namaste 3G?
Namaste 3G is a GSM compatible 3G service (
EVDO being the CDMA compatible 3G), which can provide maximum internet speeds up to 7.2 Mbps. Other services from this 3G include Video call and TV browsing. Nepal Telecom has replaced its old GSM and 3G tower with new ones with higher capacity/coverage, from which the internet browsing speeds are increased significantly. Such high speed 3G coverage is now extending not only to the whole of Kathmandu, but all of the major cities of the country. NT tells its customers that the first phase of 3G extension will be done within this year 2070. Customers can either use the 3G data services from a 3G supporting Smartphone or a 3G USB dongle attached to a computer.
How much does it cost?
The data tariff for Namaste 3G is 10 paisa per 100 KB, which is same as that of GPRS whereas the local voice call tariff is also same of Rs 1.5 per minute. Other charges like SMS, VMS, CRBT are same as that of prepaid GSM Sim whereas additional Video call service from 3G is charged as Rs 2 per min.
