April 10, 2016: Nepal Telecom, 91.5 percent owned by government, 5 percent by employees and 3.5 percent by public, will be organizing its 8th AGM on Baishak 20, 2073. In the meeting, it is known to propose 50 percent dividend to the shareholders. The dividend is 2 percent more than that of previous year. (48 percent). The company was making 35 billion revenue as presented in the last AGM which is known to exceed this time but the net profit will reduce a little due to high expenditure for Earthquake restoration and huge amount for around 800 VRS staffs. More information can be shared when NT shares its Annual report on the AGM day. As NT is rapidly expanding its mobile service around the country, the profit is also expected to surge for the coming year 2072/2073 which directly increases the dividend amount.
Though the company comes under normal criticism from the public for the quality and availability of various services. This time around for the year, the criticism booms a lot with the concerns from shareholders.
Though NT has already decided to bring forth the representation of Employee in the executive board through CBA, it is in limbo as the small unions are wary of loosing their bargaining ground if CBA elections is held. But the success of CBA elections for Civil employees rescheduled for Baishak 10 will have a large impact on that in NT also. Other issues include the restructuring of the company itself, maintenance of quality for different services, restoration of Earthquake destructed infrastructure, 4G network establishment and shareholders worth maximization.
