Government has appointed Mrs. Kamini Rajbhandari as the Managing director of Nepal Telecom (Ntc), from today’s cabinet decision. She was the Chief technical officer (CTO) of the company. She has worked in several departments of Nepal Telecom including Wireless service directorate, Wire-line directorate, Planning Department, Operation and Maintenance Department. This is the first time in Nepal Telecom, aka Ntc history that a female engineer gets appointed to the Managing director. MD is the top management position of the company.
As the selection committee has recommended three out of the six shortlisted candidates who were interviewed on Ashok 4 for the Vacancy announced for the highest management position: Managing Director of Nepal Telecom. The three candidates recommended to the cabinet were Mrs. Kamini Raj Bhandari, Mr. Sunil Pokharel and Mr. Madan Kharel. Out of which, Mrs. Kamini was only the telecom engineer.
The technical group inside the company has been lobbying for the technical personnel to be the MD of Nepal Telecom. It was two years ago that technical personnel including Engineers protested against the government decision to appoint Charter Accountant as the M.D. and they were continuously in touch with several officials for their demand which is for maintaining long term health of the company. Technical group specially Engineers are more happy with the decision to appoint RajBhandari as the MD of Nepal telecom. Equally excited are the whole women engineers of Nepal, as this is one of the senior most post assumed by Nepali women engineer.
NEA awarded Mrs. Kamini Rajbhandari as Outstanding Women engineer of the year. Nepal Engineers Association (NEA) provided such award announcement on Engineers Day 2073.
Nepal Telecom is a government owned company ( 92 percent share). It has around 48 percent share of total telecom market. It is firmly believed that she being a Telecom Engineer, can uplift the whole health of the company and maintain the quality for various services, which is a good sign to all the customers out there.
