Huawei GR5 2017, premium edition
Huawei has launched the premium edition of the GR5 2017 model here in Nepal. The 3GB RAM/ 32 GB storage version is now upgraded to 4GB RAM/ 64 GB storage, with the same dual-camera setup and octa-core Kirin 655 processor.
The phone has got 5.5 inch HD screen in a metallic uni-body frame. The dual rear camera of 12 MP + 12 MP takes better pictures with astounding bokeh effects. The Huawei GR5 2017 premium version is priced at Rs 33,000 in Nepal. Here are the major specs of the phone.

Huawei P10 plus
Its another Huawei phone on the list, which is the latest flagship launched in MWC 2017. It is quite significant to know that the larger version of p10, i.e. P10 + is only made available in Nepal. The 4GB/ 64 GB version only reaches Nepal after more than 3 months of the global launch. The 5.5-inch smartphone is powered by Kirin 960 octa-core processor and has got Dual 20 MP + 12 MP, f/1.8, OIS, Leica camera lens for stunning photos. Oppo F3 and F3 Plus
Oppo has launched the dual F3 phones: 5.5 inches and larger 6 inches in Nepal, in early May. The Oppo F3 is powered by a 1.5 GHz Octa-Core MediaTek MT6750T 64-bit processor whereas the F3 plus is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 653 Octa-core processor.
Both the phones are 4 GB RAM and 64 GB storage with hybrid dual Nano SIMS + micro SD. Oppo, popular for its selfie expert, puts the group selfie with dual 16 MP + 8 MP in front. Whereas it differs in the resolution of rear cameras in both the phones: 13 MP F2.2 vs 16 MP, f/1.7.
The larger F3 has a whopping 4000 mAH with the capability of fast charging through VOOC flash charge, not there in F3. It doesn’t look nice for such a phone not to have USB type C. The price difference between F3 and F3 plus phone is quite significant: Rs 32,990 vs Rs 54,900.
Gionee A1
The list includes another phone launched in MWC 2017: Gionee’s latest phone A1 and A1 plus which got released in Nepal in Mid April. Both the phones are powered by Mediatek helio processors: P10 1.8 GHz octa-core processor and P25 2.25 GHz octa-core processor respectively.
They also differ in the size: 5.5 inches vs 6 inch HD IPS display. Both the phones run with the latest Android 7.0 Nougat (Amigo OS on top). The phones have got ultrafast charge and dual charging chips for faster, safer charging.
The cameras in A1 plus are 20 MP selfie and 13 MP + 5 Mp dual rear one whereas A1 has got single 13 MP rear and 16 MP front camera. The A1 and A1 plus phones have 4010 mAH and 4550 mAH battery capacity. Although the specs look nice on paper, there are some complaints about overheating and not so good camera experience.

Samsung S7, S7 edge
As Samsung S8 and S8 plus are already released, the price of the S7 and S7 edge is reduced significantly with the monsoon offer. Well, this is the time to buy the best smartphone of 2016 at an affordable price. The 4GB RAM phones differ in the size; 5.1 inches vs 5.5 inch and the dual-edge that is available only in S7 edge.
The phones are still the best camera and performance phones with 12 MP F1.7 OIS camera and also affordable water and dust resistant phones now. Now, the price of the S7 edge phone is Rs 66,000 due to the Monsoon offer and the cashback. Do rush to the stores before the stock finishes.
Samsung S8, S8 plus
It was on April 20, that the latest Samsung flagships: S8 and S8 Plus are launched in Nepal. The 4GB/ 64 GB phones differ in the size: 5.8 inches vs 6.2 inches and the battery size: 3000 mAh vs 3500 mAh. All other features are the same including Octacore Exynos 8895 processor or the Snapdragon 835 processor.
Other features are a bezel-less infinity display, Water and dust resistance, Iris scanner, and Bixby assistant( which is yet to be available). The phone misses the dual-camera setup, so it is basically the same camera as that of the S7. It is likely to have the dual-camera setup in the upcoming Samsung Note 8. Xiaomi Redmi Note 4
The latest in the Mid-range Xiaomi Redmi Note series phone: Redmi Note 4 also falls in the list of top 4 GB RAM phones available here in Nepal. Most of the phones with 4GB RAM have 64 GB storage, it is the same with this phone. Redmi Note 4 comes with a 5.5 inch full HD screen and a snapdragon 625 octa-core 2 GHz processor powers the SD version.
The dual SIM phone (Micro + Nano) can use SIM slot 2 as an external SD slot for storage expansion. The phone has got a 13 MP F2.0 rear camera and a 5 MP F2.0 front camera. The battery capacity of the phone is 4100 mAh. The maximum retail price of the Redmi Note 4 SD is Rs 28,499.
ZTE Blade A2 plus
ZTE has launched an affordable medium specs phone called Blade A2 Plus in the Nepali market. The phone has got 5 inch Full HD IPS display, 4 GB RAM / 32 GB memory. It has a mammoth battery size of 5000 mAh with fast charging from Pump express 2.0.
In camera specs, it has a 13 MP rear camera, 8 MP front camera with screen flash, and 80-degree wide-angle. The phone runs on the latest Android 6.0. Though it looks like a cheap phone, it has got power in RAM and battery juice. The price of the ZTE Blade A2 Plus is Rs 23,900.
According to GadgetbyteNepal’s review of Blade A2 plus, the 5000mAh battery and 4GB RAM fall in the positive impressions whereas, Android Marshmallow, heavy weight, and no gyro sensor fall in the negative impressions.
Verdict
Considering all those 4GB RAM phones available in Nepal, Huawei GR5 2017 clearly comes out as a winner in the affordable range with a dual-camera setup. Whereas if the dual camera doesn’t matter and you prefer a high-end phone, then go for the S7 edge.
If you are looking for a long-standing smartphone with 4GB RAM and an affordable price tag, then either go for Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 or Gionee A1 or ZTE Blade A2 plus ( in descending order). Among the list, if the price is nothing you should worry about a great flagship phone, then go for either Huawei P10 plus or Samsung S8.
