Nepal Telecom (NTC) has decided to provide free GSM SIM cards to the people in the flood-affected areas. People there can get a free SIM in place of already used SIM cards that are either lost or damaged by the flood. NTC also provides free SIM card with some free balance, so as to help them communicate in this difficult time.
As the flood had a huge effect on people living in those areas and may have damaged their SIM cards, Ntc has come up with this new scheme. This free SIM scheme is beneficial to the people residing in the areas devastated by floods.
Flood-affected districts
The flood-affected 23 districts include:
- Jhapa
- Morang
- Sunsari

- Saptari
- Siraha

NTC will provide free SIM cards (both replace and new) to the people living in those districts (mentioned above). The new free Ntc SIM for flood-affected areas also includes Rs 50 free talk time and additional on-net calls of Rs 50 within the Nepal Telecom network.
The free SIM card is of GSM technology and is prepaid. NTC will distribute free SIM cards for two weeks only: Bhadra 12 to Bhadra 26, 2074. So, if you are living in the flood-affected Terai areas, you can freely replace the damaged SIM. Even if you are not affected by the flood, you can still take the new SIM for free, with a free balance of Rs 50 and free talk time.
Previously, it charges Rs 50 to replace the old existing SIM and Rs 90 to get a new SIM with Rs 50 balance. But, considering the disaster, Ntc is currently providing both the replacement and new SIM-free of charge to the people from their counters in their area. Additional Rs 50 worth on-net calling is also there.
