Nepal Telecom, the government owned telco has started 3G service in the north western region of Baglung district. It is possible as Ntc operates 3G BTS in the Dhorpatan area from Baishak 9, 2075. Ntc connects the GSM Mobile service in that area through a Microwave link to the BTS.
The BTS tower is located in Dhorpatan Municipality ward No. 9, which covers 3G in all of the Dhorpatan Valley and Some part of Bobang. Dhorpatan is around 124 km away from Baglung and has a altitude of 3200 m. The 3G service now benefits around 500 households and the tourists visiting there. 3G service is also useful for the security in the one and only hunting reserve in the country.
Mobile service in remote area of Dolpa
Ntc also operates a new BTS tower in the remote area of Dolpa. The new BTS tower operates through the VSAT link. The tower situated at Dolpa Buddha Village Body serves 2000 inhabitants and the tourists visiting there. You need to walk for 3 days to reach the remote area from Dunai.
Ntc mentions about the excitement in people for the mobile service, which not only makes the communication easy and accessible but also helps in the development of tourism in that place.
Ntc is giving more priority to expand mobile services in remote areas of the country with new mobile tower and service. It is also in line with Nepal Government’s policy to connect the remote areas to mobile network although the outcome from these areas will be low to the telecom company. But the investment for infrastructure and operation is very high in those areas. Ntc commits to keep on carrying new installation work to expand their mobile network to remote places.
