China issues 5G license to all of the telcos, that will pave for the commercial usage of the latest technology. This is a great message to the global telecom industry and the subscribers that China is ready to use 5G soon.

Ministry of Industry and Information Technology issues the commercial 5G license to three telcos namely China Mobile, China Unicom, and China Telecom and one broadcasting entity, China Broadcasting Network.

China 5G license

As known, China has a major share in the 5G development and also the essential patents for the standardisation. China is home to the telecom equipment manufacturer ZTE and Huawei. Among which Huawei stands out due to their strong leadership in 5G. They have also partnered with international companies like Nokia, Ericsson, Qualcomm, Intel for the 5G testing and commercialization.

5G Race

We all know the reason for US ban Huawei and urging others to ban for the 5G network, is for the race to be the leader in 5G technology. Now, China is not hesitating to go fierce on the 5G commercialization while other countries the even US are far behind, as per some reports. They have been testing the 5G technology from some years and they have been developing the 5G technology from 10 years.

Now they want to give the clear message that China is not only stealing technology from others. But they want to prove their ability to develop and realize the technology on its own.

Huawei says in response to the licenses that they are well prepared to help China for the 5G implementations. Similarly, all other telecom vendors have shared their readiness to help and cooperate on the 5G implementation.

What does the license mean for the race to 5G?

Commerical license now means that China will be ahead than other countries in 5G. But this need not mean China will stand alone in the 5G. The world needs a huge cooperation for the whole 5G ecosystem instead of making one winner.

Domestic market could also offset the ban of Huawei in other countries in this trade war. But US ban has forced China government to support Huawei more for the 5G development. On the sidelines of Mr. Xi’s official visit to Russia, Huawei inked a deal with MTS for the first 5G development in Russia.

For consumers, new phones buying will not be cheap for the additional benefits like higher internet speed. But 5G is not only about being faster, Improve people’s life, being smart in everything and make the business efficient, by AI should be the basis of 5G development.

5G will be 10 times faster than 4G not only in terms of peak throughput but also in terms of average speed, despite serving huge no of user equipment and IoT devices. Read more for what is 5G and the applications.

100% 5G coverage

The three telecom carriers have a forecast to spend 900 billion to 1.5 trillion yuan ($134 billion to $223 billion) in total on 5G network construction from 2020 to 2025, according to a report from the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology.

GSMA also predicts that China will have world’s largest 5G network with 460 million 5G users by 2025.

Sources also say China has plan to implement 5G in 100% areas within 5 years time which is a huge target for a country of 9600 k Square km and 1.4 billion people. But as they already have 95 % 4G coverage and a big share of 4G usage, they can build 5G networks rapidly on top of it.
