NTA board on Wednesday decides to renew the mobile license of Nepal Telecom. They also decide to collect the 20 billion amount from Ntc in installment for the third renewal of the mobile license.
Nepal Telecom had applied for the mobile license renewal with the payment of 18 crores and 90 lakhs at first. But NTA decides to collect 20 billion for the mobile license renewal. Then there was a big debate for the mobile license renewal amount to be tremendously high. NTA once threatened Nepal telecom to pay soon, otherwise, face legal complications. So, the active trade unions of Nepal Telecom warned to stage protest in favor of the Company and its employees.
NTA then recommended renewing the mobile license in Jestha, while keeping 20 billion amount as it is. Later Government decided to let Ntc pay 20 billion in installments.
As Nepal Telecom recently paid the first installment amount of 4 billion, NTA board decides to renew the license. They also come to the point to collect the remaining amount in installment which is 4 billion per year.
20 billion dissent
As known, Nepal Telecom employee unions still have their reservation not to pay the huge 20 billion, as it will affect the health of the company. They have already presented their dissatisfaction in that case to the Ntc management and MoCIT. They are also given assurance to change the provision in the Telecommunication Act itself at a later period, in their favor. Let’s see how will this 20 billion case unfold later.
Nepal Telecom first got the mobile license on Baishak 29, 2056. The first 20 billion payment was for 10 years, after which they have to pay the same sum every 5 years.
Now NTA and MoCIT applied the 20 billion renewal fee for Nepal Telecom. So, they will charge the same 20 billion for all other telcos.
