NTC booth at quarantine area
The government is constructing several quarantine spaces and holding centers at 20 sites near the border and air route for the Nepalese entering Nepal from India. NTC will be setting up a booth at these places so that Nepali citizens on arrival can obtain a free SIM card on the spot. Also, Nepali citizens arriving Kathmandu from Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA), NTC will be providing free wifi service at those 8 holding centers in Kathmandu.
The free SIM distribution will take place in 20 bordering areas and also Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA).
Boost contact tracing
This initiative of NTC will help the concerned bodies to keep track of their health issues and for contact tracing purposes. Contact tracing allows us to track the people who have come in contact with the COVID-19 infected person but hasn’t been known about.
To obtain the free SIM card, the person has to provide either their citizenship, passport, license, travel document, or some other documents that supply evidence of their identity. We believe this step of Nepal Telecom will contribute to controlling the spread of coronavirus in Nepal.
It will enable them to connect to their families as soon as they arrive in their homeland. For the time being, NTC has arranged around 1 lakh free SIM cards to distribute.
