Nepal Telecom has announced that it’s GSM mobile network is now available in the remote villages of Takasindu and Jubu, located in Solukhumbu district. Similarly, the Customer Service Center of Rumjatar Airport, Okhaldhunga has come into operation.
With the availability of the mobile network, people in Takasindu and Jubu can now have access to voice and data service. Nepal Telecom introduced the GSM service in those areas in Asoj 29. Prior to this, the company was providing its Sky mobile service, using the CDMA mobile network of Nepal Telecom.
Installation of BTS tower at Jubu, Taksindu (Solukhumbu)
At the foothills of Mt. Number resides Taksindu of Dudhkund Municipality, where a BTS tower of GSM technology has been installed at an altitude of 3,130 meters. Since the trekkers follow the Lukla to Namche route, it is expected that the tourists will also benefit from this service.
About 600 households of villages like Nunthala, Phulebi, Sera, Kharikhola, Jubing, Paiya will now directly benefit from the company’s services. For the convenience of the people living in extremely remote places, Nepal Telecom has started free sim distribution in those settlements.
Similarly, another BTS tower in the Jubu Walanga of Dudhkoshi Gaunpalika Ward No. 4 of Solukhumbu has also come into operation recently. The Ntc tower installed at an altitude of about 1230 meters will also serve around 4,000 households of villages like Deusa, Mukli, Kagel, Panchan, and Jubu.
Restoration of Customer Service Center at Rumjatar
Nepal Telecom has also restored the customer service center at Rumjatar, Okhaldhuga recently. Although the company was already providing services through the customer service center at Rumjatar Airport, the center was in a non-operating condition for about two years.
After the restoration of the customer service center, it will be easier for the service users to connect the telephone, take an internet facility, purchase a new sim card, or change the sim card. Also, people can also pay their bills for the service at the center. These days, most people prefer online bill payment whereas there are still some who opt to reach bill counters due to digital literacy.
Regarding the mobile network expansion in such remote places, Nepal Telecom has increased its efforts in operating GSM Base stations in the location where there is only CDMA BTS. It is due to the reason that the company has planned to shut down the CDMA mobile network soon. With the installation of GSM infrastructure, they can use the same for the latest technologies like 4G and beyond.
