Minister of MoCIT, Mr. Parbat Gurung, informed that they are planning to accelerate quality telecommunication service at an affordable price. He also revealed about setting up a separate infrastructure company during an interaction program held on March 16, 2021, at Singha Durbar. The infrastructure company shall enable the quality of service with lesser cost thus reducing the service charges.
Customer’s satisfaction
In terms of satisfaction, customers frequently complain about poor quality and expensive service. The users often suffer from low-quality voice service and weak internet connection. Similarly, telecom services are slightly costly for people with low income.
The taxes attached to the services of telecom operators even hike the service charge. Therefore, customers are unsatisfied with the service charge and seek better quality and reduction in price. As per a report, Nepal ranks among the top 10 countries with the highest telecom tax.
So, the Government has also discussed over reducing the tax in telecom sector through the upcoming budget to improve the accessibility to more people who are deprived due to the high cost.
Changes and growth in coming days
Minister Gurung has notified that the government is working on modifying policies and programs, including the budget for the next fiscal year. The changes will strictly focus on the development of the Communication and Information technology sector. He has also asked the stakeholders to provide necessary suggestions in this process.
Similarly, Minister Gurung recently announced the 5G network testing. Now, people will soon be able to experience fast internet service with the use of 5G, that too for free in the trial period. It is a massive development in the field of information technology.
MoCIT is also actively working on its ambitious project ‘Digital Nepal Framework’, Gorkhapatra reports. Minister Gurung has also urged the private companies to contribute as much to this program for its successful accomplishment. Similarly, in a separate discussion, he urged the concerned bodies to make the ‘Nagarik App’ more effective.
