Huawei Nepal has successfully hosted the opening ceremony for the Seeds for the Future program 2022. Aimed at offering young and top talents from top universities worldwide an exchange program, the tech giant announced the names of 7 Nepali students selected for this year’s campaign. Seeds are Huawei’s globally celebrated flagship CSR initiative. Meanwhile, it is the second edition of the program in Nepal.
Seeds for the Future was first launched in 2008 in Thailand. Since then, over 12,000 students from 130+ countries and regions have participated in this prestigious program. In Nepal, Huawei started the Seeds program last year in 2021 and the company gave continuity this year as well.
This year, Huawei Nepal says it received 256 applications from enthusiastic ICT students from across Nepal. The company selected 7 students were then selected on the basis of their GPA, motivation letter, and a selection interview conducted by Prof. Dr. Shashidhar Ram Joshi, Prof. Timila Yami Thapa, and Prof. Dr. Subarna Shakya, and Prof. Dr. Manish Pokharel.

Since their selection in July, the students have been receiving insights into the ICT sector in Nepal through multiple engagements. The students received classes on data center business in Nepal and learned how FTTH internet works during their visit to the offices of Dish Home. Additionally, they took part in Chinese calligraphy and paper cutting workshop at the China Culture Center in Kathmandu.
The students are also being engaged by UNESCO as part of its Next 50 campaign.
7 students will participate in an onsite program in Bangkok
The 7 selected students will get a chance to participate in the first-ever regional onsite program that will take place in Bangkok from August 19 – August 27. During the event, the students get a chance to be more familiar with 5G, AI, Cloud Computing, the Metaverse, etc. It is an opportunity to get acquainted with emerging technologies too.
Likewise, they will also observe the practical applications of 5G and get to engage in cross-cultural learning with students from 14 countries.
The students will then participate in the “Tech4Good” competition. This will be their chance to come up with an original idea to combat real-world environmental or social issues.

A chance for more experience awaits in Singapore
The winning teams from the Tech4Good project will get a chance to join the Tech4Good accelerator camp in Singapore. The event will take place from August 29 – September 2. After their return, students will also visit a Huawei-built base station at Muktinath in late September.
Speaking at the event, the guests of honor for the program, Dr. Baikuntha Aryal, Secretary, Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, Mr. Purushottam Khanal, Chairman, Nepal Telecommunications Authority, and the selection committee members, thanked Huawei for introducing the CSR program in Nepal. They also extended their best wishes to the 7 students for the Tech4Good competition. Mr. Jason Li, a Member of the Board, of Huawei Nepal, said that Huawei wants to continue to be able to able give talented students a platform for international exposure and learning.
