Telecom regulator Nepal Telecommunication Authority (Nta) has demanded clarification from Nepal Telecom (Ntc) after the telco saw another network issue today (February 15). Regarding the matter, the authority raised questions about the operator’s services.
Ntc’s network suffered another issue today with customers becoming unable to call, send SMS, or use data over a brief period. It’s another case with the operator’s network. On January 17 (Magh 3), there was another issue with the telco’s network. After the frequency of its network outages grew, the regulator sought an answer regarding the matter. Workers union of Ntc has also voiced their concern over the issues and demanded action against the responsible.
In a previous case of Magh, Ntc pointed to equipment malfunction being the cause of its network problems in the past. The company blamed cellular gear faults for its network disruption via a press note. The committee formed by the government concluded that the cause behind the network issue was the company changing the card for its billing system. It also alerted the company that its maintenance of the system at a time when the network receives a huge volume of calls was an error.

Ntc has not shared the specific reasons behind the network struggles yet. However, the company’s spokesman Shobhan Adhikari said, “The problem occurred due to traffic congestion. It was a short-lived network issue therefore; it was not made public.”
However, this time, the matter has drawn the attention of the regulator.
