Nepal Telecommunication Authority (NTA) is distributing smart devices such as TV, CCTV camera, and laptop to schools in 100 different rural areas.
While speaking on the occasion of Women’s International day on March 08, the authority’s chairman Mr. Purushottam Khanal made the announcement. He was at an event organized by women in Information Technology in Kathmandu.
According to Mr. Khanal, smart devices will connect schools with quality education in rural areas. For the initiation, the authority will establish a studio at a school in Kathmandu. The regulator will select a government school that it will find ideal in the capital.

Nta distributing smart devices to rural schools
From the studio, subjects of classes 8, 9, and 10 will be taught which will be broadcast online. The smart devices that NTA is providing in 100 schools will help make these classes accessible for schools in rural areas. Additionally, schools which are equipped with smart infrastructures will be able to access the materials.
Supremo Mr. Khanal expressed his belief that the project will be a milestone in Nepal’s education system. An arrangement will be made in a way that e-learning will be possible anytime using the data from the studio.
Similarly, the authority has helped provide WiFi devices to 32 community schools in Badikedar Rural Municipality, Doti. The devices will complement the need to smart learning in the remote region. These devices can use 4G SIM cards to provide high-speed broadband internet.
NTA is also providing free broadband services in educational institutions in many rural parts of Nepal as part of its RTDF broadband project. The merge of ICT and education will uplift the much-needed education system in Nepal which is still rooted in traditional practices. Likewise, such initiation also plays a crucial role to bridge the digital divide.
