Nepal Telecom (NTC) has grown its 4G coverage in the Darchula district with 25 out of the total 30 cell towers, are operational providing high-speed mobile broadband service.
In recent years, the remote Sudurpaschim district has seen a major transformation in mobile communications. Till 2075 BS, the hilly district had only 14 towers. Now, there are a total of 30 Ntc towers providing mobile services. This has become possible thanks to the operator giving more priority to 4G expansion over raking in revenues. The active service expansion has led to increasing penetration of 4G broadband service in remote areas across Nepal.
Office In-charge of Ntc Darchula, Krishna Bahadur Gurung shared that the 25 base stations in the district now provide 4G service, Gorkhapatra writes. After the company ditched Sky Phone service, GSM service has been established from all the towers. In Chhangru though, the migration work still remains. Gurung said that in the current Fiscal Year 2079/80 BS, the Sky Phone in Chhangru will be replaced with GSM technology.

Ntc grows 4G Service in Darchula but there are still areas of major attention
But while cellular service is making a leap, other forms of communication service still beg for improvement. The district headquarters in Khalanga still rely on ADSL service and the quality is not ideal. Likewise, Vyas Rural Municipality-01 Tinkar has no access to any telecommunication service. Gurung continued that the plan is to provide service via 2G BTS using satellite because setting up a radio link there is not feasible.
Difficult terrain and lack of electrification are the two major impediments to expanding wireless communication services. In areas where electricity is available, Ntc has efficiently extended its 4G services.
So far, the telco has brought its 4G network coverage to 98 percent of local levels across Nepal. The telco seeks to rapidly extend 4G coverage as it prepares for the 5G trials across seven provinces.
