Nepal Telecom has launched its 4G mobile broadband service in Limi and Muchu villages in Humla. With this, the locals around Jang, Halji, and Til lying in upper Namkha Rural Municipality- 6, now have access to high-speed mobile internet service. The company started the broadband services by setting up two cellular towers in the area.
Prior to this, those sites had VSAT link for transmission connectivity. However, for 4G broadband service, the VSAT link in Limi and Muchu were replaced by a high capacity Microwave link from Nara ko Lek.
The launch of the advanced mobile service has been the result of a 3-year effort. Due to the complex geography, establishing the telecom service is not easy in much of the Northern parts of Nepal. However, the state-backed company has made it a priority to connect far-flung areas across the country.
To launch the cellular network, Ntc set up its base stations (BTS) at an elevation of over 4.5 thousand meters. The 4G towers cover the areas of Til, Halji, and Jang villages. As stated, due to the uneven terrain, communication services are hard to get by. However, the expansion is accelerating thanks to telcos’ initiatives.
