Some upper parts of Phaktanglung Rural Municipality of Taplejung district are now connected by 4G mobile service after Nepal Telecom on-aired the network in the remote area. The state-backed telco installed a 4G base station on Phaktanglung-6, Lewadada to bring the advanced cellular broadband network to more areas in the far-flung region.
The 4G network will address the limitations of the previous 2G services in its coverage areas. With the launch of 4G, Sangu, Batase, Madibung, Fembu, Lelep, Lungthung, Sekathum Lawajin, Kisonga, and Amjilesa in Lelep have now got access to high-speed mobile internet service, similarly, the tower has also provided 4G coverage in Hellok, Yasang, Sotlima, Tapethok, and Ikhabu of Tapethok.
Phaktanglung Rural Municipality’s Deputy Chairman Rabin Samra Limbu said that the launch of the 4G network in the area has directly benefitted 3,000 population. But the locals are not the only beneficiaries. The Secretariat of the Rural Municipality Chairman Rajan Limbu shared that the high-speed mobile internet service will be useful for tourists in Kanchanjungha too. He also added that the government and non-government offices will also be able to use internet for faster service delivery.

4G finally arrives
Prior to this, no communication service had been established in the upper surroundings of Phaktanglung. That is because despite the area being Nepal’s third-largest rural municipality by geography, telcos saw less economic potential for it being in a remote region. This is why, the place unfortunately wasn’t on the priority list of service providers for communication services.
However, in 2074, Nepal Telecom launched the 2G mobile service in Muringladada of Lepe which finally sparked communication in the area. 2G network brings voice and data to the handsets although the internet speed remains too low for today’s standards. But thankfully, the fourth-generation mobile network has started in the region. 4G brings the truest mobile broadband experience and offers HD voice calls via Voice over LTE (VoLTE) technology. Nepal Telecom commercially provides VoLTE service which brings better calls with better voice quality.
More areas in Phaktanglung get Ntc 4G Service
The lower parts of Phaktanglung already have 4G internet service. Sawadin, Khejenim, Lingkhim, and Ikhabu of wards no. 1, 2, 3, and 4 have access to 4G of Ntc and Ncell. Only wards no. 5, 6, and 7 of Tapethok, Lelep, and Olangchunggola didn’t have the privilege of modern cellular service.
The Chairman of the rural municipality Limbu said that efforts helped bring the prized network to the area. He said that the local government took initiatives at the relevant bodies for the transportation and the setup of the equipment. Also read: NTC Transporting Equipment by Helicopters to Remote Areas
He shared that he also participated to transport equipment from Sekathum to Lewadada. He added that a survey has also been conducted to install a 4G tower in the same village’s ward no.7 while the survey is ongoing for Ghunsa (another area in the same rural municipality). Limbu expects the broadband service to arrive within one year.
4G is the goal
Nepal Telecom has remained very active in mobile network upgradation and 4G launch across Nepal. The company has recently shut down CDMA and WiMAX as it centers focus on 4G expansion and 5G trials. There are also offers for customers who are migrating from CDMA C-Phone to GSM services.
So far, Ntc has expanded its 4G network to 98% of local levels and continues to extend it to more areas. The company is also working closely with NTA to bring free broadband services to many community schools, colleges, ward offices, etc.
At the moment, Nepal Telecom remains the 4G leader boasting a massive user base of over 1.25 crore throughout Nepal.
