Nepal Telecom says that twenty thousand units of its recharge cards have gone missing. Releasing a notice, the state-backed telecom operator said that its recharge cards worth Rs 50 balance are missing. Find out those cards’ serial numbers to stay alert against their unlawful use just in case.
The company’s Wireless Service Directorate, Babarmahal, Kathmandu shared in the notice that the cards were lost during their transportation. The notice reads that the “Namaste” brand recharge cards went missing as they were in a vehicle bound for Bhairahawa from Kathmandu.
It is illegal to buy/sell or use cards without authorization by the company or that are distributed via illegitimate channels. So, Ntc has requested everyone to be aware and not use those recharge cards in concern. In the meantime, the company has called on everyone not to sell or buy the missing “Namaste” recharge cards. And for their identification and awareness, it shared the cards’ serial numbers. As the notice has it, the missing recharge cards’ serial numbers range from 1122120013780001 to 1122120013800000.

Without activation, recharge cards remain only “paper”
Ntc’s spokesman Shobhan Adhikari said that the missing recharge cards are yet to be activated. And only after the company enters those cards’ serial numbers into the system, they carry the “value” assigned to them (Rs 50, in this case). That means, until their activation, they remain as valuable as paper.
The company dispatches its recharge cards to its Wireless Service Directorates. Depending on the need, they are then transported to different areas to reach its customers. Adhikari shared that it was because of the “misplacement” during their transporation, those cards were lost.
Additionally, the company has requested distributors and customers to return the missing recharge cards to their nearest Ntc office if they find them. The company has provided its landline number 01-4788666 for contact regarding this issue.
Still relevant!
These days, more mobile subscribers are using digital means such as mobile wallets and mobile banking apps to recharge their phones. However, recharge cards still remain relevant as many don’t have the “luxury” of access to electronic facilities, especially in rural areas. Additionally, in areas where mobile data or networks are not available or remain sluggish, offline charging becomes a handy option. So, still recharge cards comprise a major segment in mobile services. Check out: How to recharge Ntc, Ncell mobile online?
