Apple will include a battery charge limit feature on the iPhone 15 series letting users limit the battery charging percentage which will help prolong the battery’s lifespan. While the phone maker hasn’t revealed details about this exciting feature, reports indicate that this will help alleviate the concerns of battery health dropping faster on Apple devices.
The Cupertino giant Apple has recently launched its latest iPhone 15 series- standard and Plus, Pro, and Pro Max models. For the first time, these premium devices from Apple come with USB-Type C port (lightning port’s dead!) and use 3nm chipsets. But equally important and more crucial to some perhaps, the lineups also come with the battery charge limiting feature.
iPhone 15 will have a “battery charge limit” feature
As found by 9to5mac, the code in iOS 17 RC Apple released to developers on Tuesday, hints at the new feature that allows users to determine the maximum battery charge percentage to their liking. To illustrate, the feature allows users to set how much their iPhone 15 device should charge. After the roll-out, the option will be available in the Battery settings menu on iPhones.
So when you have turned on this feature, your iPhone will say that it “will only charge to about X%”. The X represents the battery percent you will set. When off, the device will notify that the phone “will charge to its full capacity.”
The feature works very similar to the “Optimized Battery Charging” feature available on iOS 13 and later OS versions. This feature intelligently observes a user’s daily usage patterns and “delays charging past 80% in certain situations” but ensures that the iPhone is “still fully charged when unplugged. However, the new feature differs in that it restricts the iPhone’s battery to charge 100% when a user sets the percentage below its full capacity.
A similar feature is available on Android devices. It is an established claim that charging a lithium-ion battery to 100% can lower a battery’s overall health and life cycle. Many suggest that the optimal battery charge is up to 80% at max. It seems that Apple might have finally paid heed to the users’ concerns and introduced a redressal.

Compatibility
Not much is out to the public regarding this feature yet. And given that the iPhone 15 devices haven’t arrived at the stores, it’s hard to ascertain anything much. But the feature is in the code. That means it’s only likely that the next-generation devices will feature the option when they hit the stores. However, it’s reported that the feature is not available on iPhone 14 and that it could only be compatible with iPhones with USB-Type C ports.
Apple will release the iOS 17 to the public on Monday, September 18. The iPhone 15 smartphones will be available to buy from September 22.
Is battery percentage and its overall lifespan a concern to you? If yes, then the future of the iPhone 15 could be important to you but are you concerned that the feature could be available only on USB-C iPhones? Do share with us what you think about it down below in the comments.
