Ncell Axiata has further expanded its 4G network in the remote districts of Karnali and Far-West (Sudurpaschim) provinces. With the latest expansion, the district headquarters of Mugu, Dolpa, Humla, and Bajura have been connected by Ncell’s fourth-gen mobile broadband network. The operator says that now the locals in these areas can leverage the opportunities digital connectivity and technology can bring right to their devices.
To start 4G in these new locations, Ncell installed four 4G base transceiver stations (BTS) one each in Thuli Bheri Municipality (Dolpa), Chhayanath Rara Municipality (Mugu), Badimalika Municipality (Bajura), and Simikot Rural Municipality (Humla) last month. While doing so, Ncell replaced the existing basic mobile service being provided through V-SAT technology. Now, the locals of Gamgadhi, Dunai, Martadi, and Simikot can enjoy high-speed mobile internet thanks to Ncell 4G.

It is a milestone because, with this, we have connected all districts of Karnali Province and Sudurpaschim Province, contributing to the Digital Nepal vision of the government and building of digital inclusive communities.”
Ncell installed 338 base stations in FY 2022/23 setting up mobile services and enhancing 4G. The same drive for better network coverage and capacity has continued with these latest network extension works. 4G is the current best mobile network in Nepal with the highest user base. Ncell remains a key proponent of this network.

4G expansion is a priority at Ncell
Ncell has made 4G expansion as well as enhancements a priority. Soon, the telco will extend its 4G connectivity in the Manang district. 4G unlocks various use cases on smartphones. With 4G LTE, users can stream high-definition videos, download large-size files, play games, and make video calls. Additionally, 4G also enables Voice over Long Term Evolution (VoLTE) calls, and sharing of large-size files in real-time and time-sensitive data immediately.
Ncell now has over 4,100 4G BTS sites across Nepal. The telco is actively contributing to realizing the goals of the Digital Nepal Framework. Increasing access to mobile broadband service is one of the key prerequisites of a Digital Nepal. The private operator has likewise, upgraded 4G capacity in nearly 1,450 towers across 60 districts.
Ncell started 4G in Kathmandu Valley in 2017 to deliver world-class services and customer experience. Now, Ncell has brought its 4G to the remote districts of Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces which reflects its commitment to improving Nepal’s mobile services and digital transformation.
