Qualcomm has launched its new connectivity system FastConnect 7900 and Snapdragon X80 5G modem-RF at the ongoing Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2024 in Barcelona. It’s the new silicon that aims at enhancing the 5G, WiFi, and AI capabilities of the upcoming mobile devices.
The FastConnect 7900 comes with more performance perks compared to the previous-generation FastConnect 7800. But it’s also more energy-efficient as Qualcomm says that it consumes 40% less energy.

FastConnect 7900 brings the power of AI
Qualcomm FastConnect 7900 is also the first WiFi chipset from the company with the onboard AI. The silicon smartly optimizes latency and energy use as devices go on a resource rampage. But it won’t, as the company maintains, encroach into the user’s privacy.
Likewise, the mobile WiFi system also betters signal strength during video calls, or when the user is gaming when better connectivity is needed most. Qualcomm says that FastConnect 7900 can also understand situations and work accordingly in other situations to sustain device performance. For e.g., it works intuitively to deliver the maximum speed possible while downloading apps, or video-calling. It can also minimize WiFi power when it’s not needed much when let’s say you are sleeping. For other wireless connections, the FastConnect 7900 supports Bluetooth 5.4 and 802.15 Ultra-Wide-Band radio technologies.
