Nepal Telecom (NTC) established the 4G network in the Korala border (Korala Naka) area on Tuesday, September 24, 2024. The historic move brings reliable and modern telecommunication services to the remote regions benefiting locals, tourists, and businesses.
To launch its telecom services, NTC installed a cell tower in the Korala Border region which stands at an elevation of 4700 meters above sea level. The area serves as a vehicle border between Nepal and Tibet, China. The company has been very aggressive in extending its mobile network in remote regions including up North around the border region. Korala border has become the state-backed company’s latest frontier. Previously, the company had established only 3G services in the adjacent regions such as Nyamdo, Chungjung, and Korala.
According to the NT office chief of Baglung, Santosh Baral, the company set up a tower to provide 2G and 4G services and run on solar energy. That means users will get reliable voice services with 2G while 4G will offer high-speed mobile broadband. The company also provides HD voice with VoLTE and eSIM, so having an NT service means a suite of services including 4G data, and VoLTE calls for smartphone users.
Although there is talk of leaving 3G or which network, 2G or 3G will shut down first, NT continues to include 2G service as it remains a solid network for voice service.
