Nepal Telecom (NTC) has launched telecom services in Palata Rural Municipality, a remotely-lying region in the Kalikot district in Karnali province. The area has now been connected after the company established and brought into operation a cellular tower (base station).
Prior to this, the area was deprived of communication which is why the state-backed telecom giant undertook the much-needed initiative. The launch of telecom services in the area now connects the locals, businesses, government offices, and tourists with connectivity.
To bring connectivity to Palata, NT has set up a tower in Rijjeb Hill in Palata Rural Municipality – 04. According to Pramu Premsingh Bista, chief of Ntc Office, Kalikot, the tower now provides coverage to 90 percent of the local body with telecom service.
But the company does not end there. The plan is to expand telecom services in wards 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 of Palata Rural Municipality and Pachaljharana Rural Municipality. “The tower is being operated to bring connectivity to underserved areas,” he added.

Nepal Telecom readies 4G network in Palata Rural Municipality
Ward 4 chairperson Tilak Budha said that Nepal Telecom will soon bring 4G to Palata Rural Municipality. He shared that the company is in the final stage of preparation to bring advanced mobile broadband to the far-flung region in Western Nepal. Once launched, the broadband network will enable users to connect with their family and friends and access the internet at great data speeds.
He also stated that the launch of 4G in the area would relieve the locals, who have so far been without modern communication facilities.
The launch of 4G in Palata Rural Municipality follows NT’s mantra of service expansion. The company has made long strides in broadening the coverage of its services. Recently, the company achieved full coverage of its FTTH internet service across 77 districts. At the same time, the company’s 4G is available in over 98 percent local levels.
For being a government-backed company, NT emphasizes service expansion over profit. Therefore, it’s focusing on both service expansion and upgrade works. Particularly in the GSM mobile side of the business, the company is aggressively working on 4G as it seeks to use LTE infrastructure later for transition to Non-Standalone 5G.
