Nepal Telecom (NTC) has set Rs 50 as the minimum online recharge amount from Thursday, Falgun 15, 2081. So, from now on, Ntc users will need to recharge or top-up their Ntc SIM with at least Rs 50.
The company previously allowed users to recharge with a random amount. So, some users could also top up Rs 10 to benefit from incoming calls or make an important outgoing call. However, the new rule dictates that users need to spend at least Rs 50.

Ntc sets Rs 50 minimum recharge amount
Ntc users can now recharge or top-up their SIM cards with at least Rs 50 on digital wallets, mobile banking apps, and MPoS.
After this ruling, digital wallets and mobile banking apps have already started implementing the new policy. Digital wallets eSewa and Khalti confirmed that users would need to spend at least Rs 50 to top-up their Ntc SIM. Prior to this, you would be able to recharge or top up your Ntc SIM as low as Rs 10. Now, it’s raised to Rs 50.
I myself also tried to top-up my Ntc balance with Rs 40 to see if it works. It didn’t. Instead, I received the following screen telling me that the transaction failed. Probably, because I tried to top-up with the amount below Rs 50.

Ntc reasons that the new policy minimizes the use of low and random amounts for recharge. However, users who lack the amount and need to top-up low for an urgent call or SMS might be affected by this. On the contrary, it also helps users. Rs 50 is quite helpful for a good number of voice calls and SMS. Also, it is good to increase Ntc validity. So, it does reduce the frequency of recharging the mobile balance.
Private telco Ncell has also implemented a similar recharge validity rule though backed from the 7-day validity. Now, Ntc has also brought in Rs 50 as a minimum online recharge amount which also brings uniformity between the two telecom companies.
