MSM Video, a new OTT platform has been launched to cater to Nepali audiences with a dose of video and music content including Kollywood movies. The service available on mobile apps already has some exciting Nepali movies and is set to bring aboard more in the near future. I have started using the app and will share important information about it. Here’s how you can start watching content on MSM Videos, movie costs, subscription models, payment options, and its prospects in Nepal’s OTT market.

MSM Video App Boasts Some Blockbuster Content
MSM Video app self-describes it as premium, the content does tend to reflect that. The platform boasts current popular movies such as Dimag Kharab, Gharjwai, and Mahajatra. It says that it will have an overall inventory of over 1,000 movies, 20,000+ music videos, and over 50 TV series, plus plenty more.
Behuli from Meghauli finally lands
Nepali movie “Behuli from Meghauli” launched on OTT platform MSM Video on Friday, October 25, 2024. The arrival was pre-announced by the film’s producer and actor Nischal Basnet. Expressing his bemusement over the lack of shows given to his film, he expressed his gratitude to all the audience who watched the movie in the cinema but pulled the movie off large screens on October 17.
He said, “Sincere thanks to all the viewers who watched our movie “Behuli from Meghauli” in various theaters across the country from the day of the screening till the 14th day. Also a big thanks to QFX Cinemas for providing a respectable show.” Now after just 23 days, the movie has arrived on an OTT platform.
The movie centers around the struggles of a father in trying to find a suitor for his daughter. The film has Swastima Khadka in the lead with Nischal Basnet, Basundhara Bhusal, Bijay Baral, etc. in the ensemble.
The movie is made available for a day’s rent at $4.97 (Rs 667) and for weekly, it’s coming in at $7 (Rs 940).
Behuli from Meghauli’s coming to the new OTT benefits both the movie and the platform itself. As the movie gets an alternative platform for its runtime, it also raises the app’s stakes also raises for sure. Stay informed that the app won’t be available in the USA, Japan, Canada, and Singapore. Therefore, audiences in these countries can watch the movie in cinemas.
Steps to Create an Account on MSM Video
Some users have stated that they faced difficulty during the signing-up process as they couldn’t get the OTP. I had the same experience but got an effective workaround (more on that below). Anyway, here are the steps to sign up for MSM Video:
- Launch the app
- Tap on Sign Up
- Enter your email and password then tap on Sign Up
- Now, you receive an OTP on your email
- Enter the OTP on the app to get your account verified
- Now, you can enter the app subscribe to its content, and watch them on the go
NOTE: If you can’t see the OTP in the inbox section of your email account, it may be found in the Spam folder.

I Didn’t Get the OTP, So How Can I Sign Up?
There’s still a way to sign up for the app even if you don’t get the OTP code. For this, you need to contact the app on its social network handles such as on Instagram and Facebook. When you wait on OTP, you should check the Spam folder too. If it’s not there, you need to send a message to the app. Then, they tell you to hit on the “resend the code” option on the app and give you a valid OTP. By using that OTP, you will successfully sign up as I did.
Anyway, the OTP issue has it do with the company and telecom companies. It’s likely to get a solution soon. So, for now, contacting the app via personal message is your best solution. The MSM Video app is available on both Android and iOS platforms.

Movie Rent Costs, Subscription, and Number of Devices Allowed
MSM Video offers movies on rent on a weekly, 2 weeks, and monthly basis. For weekly, a movie costs $3.00, for 2 weeks, it costs $4.80, and $6.00 for a month. That roughly translates to Rs 402, Rs 644, and Rs 805, respectively in Nepal. Do note as I am writing this article, the latest update for the app seems to have removed the monthly movie rent option. I will update more about it when I get an official confirmation.

Besides, you can choose to subscribe to MSM Video in Basic and Forever plans. Under basic, you can choose monthly for $10 (Rs 1,341) for a month. Likewise, should you choose the semi-annually (six-month) plan, it comes at $55 (Rs 7,376) and $100 for a year which is Rs 13,411. The Basic Plan lets you watch the content on up to 3 devices and you get 3 – 4 new content every month. The subscription gives you unlimited watching benefits on HD and UHD resolution with no time limit.
Similarly, if you choose the “Forever” plan, it comes to you at $1999 which amounts to Rs 268,099 in Nepali. This is a lifetime subscription that comes with up to 4 devices and exclusive rental content for you.

You can also choose a yearly plan which is available at Rs 4499 which brings to you the benefits of 3 – 4 new content every month, unlimited streaming in HD and UHD resolution, and the ability to download and watch offline in the app. Besides, you can also Google cast the videos to smart TVs.
Diverse Payment Options
MSM Video app provides three different payment options in terms of geographical locations. Subscribers in Nepal can pay for their subscriptions on eSewa and Khalti. Those in India can use Google Pay, paytm, PhonePe, and JioMoney. For users beyond Nepal and India, Visa and Master card options are available for payment.
My App Experience
It’s sort of in development I must say
To test the service myself, I downloaded the app on my Android smartphone. However, I felt a slight inconvenience when I couldn’t sign up as I couldn’t get OTP. But I was thankful for their cooperation. They were quick enough to address it for me by providing me with an OTP.
The company provides OTP code personally in case it doesn’t work for users. I DM’ed them on Facebook Messenger and got a working OTP code which finally enabled me to sign up and sign in to the app. You can do the same as well if you don’t get the OTP.
On The Brighter Side
On a positive note, the app looks like the result of quite some intuitive work. It allows login with a QR code. The interface makes it easy to navigate through options. I would say it’s a minimalist and effective design. The top of the app has options of “All”, “Movies”, and “More” while on the bottom, there are “Home”, “News & Blogs”, “Downloads”, and “Search” options. The “More” option lets you find content according to different genres. For now, there’s thin content available but that shall pile up with time. The movie you download is stored in Downloads so you can easily access them.
What’s also impressive is that when I tap on a movie, it not only gives me the option to rent it but I can also watch its trailer. Likewise, I can also add the movie to “My List”, share it to social networks, see the movie’s cast and crew, and read its synopsis.
Additionally, the key options are easily available through the tabs so I find it to be a user-friendly UI. The available movies are placed on the home screen making things easier for users. Another good thing: As with other video streaming apps MSM Video subscribers can watch its content on smartphones, tablets, web browsers, and TVs. The app even promises to deliver movies in up to 8K resolution and offer 24/7 customer service. In a nutshell, the app gives quite a comprehensive user experience.
Our Conclusion: MSM Video does have a space to shine!
The OTT industry is not crowded or fully matured yet in Nepal. Only a few domestic OTT video platforms have made names such as Cinemaghar and NetTV that offer Nepali as well as foreign movies, web series, and other content. Netflix, though, still remains the most prominent. Therefore, MSM Video does have the potential to claim its space in the industry.
And that shall be a positive thing too. Having competition results in better products and services. Competitiveness can have an overall positive impact that’s good for both companies and customers. In terms of competition, it might contest another new OTT platform Kantipur Cinemas which was unveiled in October 2023.
In Nepal, more Nepali filmmakers have felt the need for commercial OTT platforms that can be alternatives to film halls. So, there’s a need for more OTT platforms that can elevate the digital entertainment scene to the next level. Let’s hope that MSM Video can be the next big platform for digital content.
