Ncell has started its operations with its newly strengthened Rapid Response Teams (RRTs). The telco has formed teams in each district to maintain and restore its telecom services in case of mishaps comprises its infrastructure and services due to the ongoing monsoon.
Already, RRT has restored mobile towers and continued services shortly in many areas after short network outages caused by storms and heavy downpours.
Monsoon started in Nepal on June 11, 3 days earlier than the traditional start on June 13. As always, news of floods and landslides has started coming in from across Nepal. In such dire times, communication services become more important than ever. Therefore, Ncell has further reinforced its Rapid Response Teams to ensure its telecom services remain running despite challenges from the torrential rain.
The RRTs are specially trained to handle emergencies, restore towers, and resume services as quickly as possible, in line with the company’s commitment to keep its customers always on (Sadhain ON).
Effective and timely intervention
The telco’s RRTs were to restore over 70% of 116 impacted towers within 4.5 hours in over 15 districts in Koshi, Madhesh, and Gandaki provinces. These sites went offline after the extreme monsoon weather affected them on June 26.
Likewise, the telco says that there were various breakages of its optical fiber while poles of Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) and tress also fell down, disrupting power supply. Ncell has improved its workforce by 10% with the purpose of addressing telecom network outages.

Ncell forms Rapid Response Teams and other resources ready to remedy monsoon challenges
Ncell says that it aims to restore its services in affected areas in 4 to 6 hours if there are no major hurdles. This is enabled by the company’s more-than-normal-days personnel and robust training.
The power supply is a common victim in times of disaster. To ensure it’s barely the case, Ncell has backed up its towers with battery backup systems. These cells support the towers for 4 to 5 hours when there is no electricity supply to the tower.
Besides, the company has kept its Diesel Generator on-wheel (DoW) and cell-on-while (CoW) ready to provide emergency services in need.
These resources help keep Ncell’s telecom services afloat even when its infrastructures are compromised by monsoon. The company is putting in effort to ensure that its users can always stay connected. It’s in line with the telco’s driving Sadhain On campaign these days. Commitment to public safety
Ncell collaborates with the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DHM) to disseminate vital public alerts via SMS. In 2023 alone, the company sent over 10 million alerts making people aware of floods and landslides in their area. The initiative has been instrumental in saving people’s lives and their properties during times of natural disasters.
To get information about the flood, you can dial 1155 which is a toll-free number from the department.
As monsoon remains active across Nepal, news of disasters become common. We urge you to take the highest care of yourself, your family, and your property and stay alert all the time for any possible calamities.
