Nepal’s telecommunications regulatory body Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA) is calling for suggestions and opinions as it prepares for amendment of the Cyber Security Bylaw, 2020 (2077). The authority released a notice on August 02, 2023.
NTA framed the current Cybersecurity Bylaw under section 62 in the Telecommunicators Act, 1997 (2053). The Bylaw, NTA says, aims to implement cyber security standards and best practices to protect “ICT infrastructure and information systems” for companies in Nepal from harmful attacks and threats. And now, the authority has begun a process for its amendment.
So, the body is seeking feedback from all the stakeholders on the existing rule to enhance its effectiveness further. In addition, it has also called for justifications for amendment in writing.
“NTA requets all the concerned stakeholders including telecom service providers to provide their point-wise opinion, advice, or suggestions along with reasons/justifications of amendment in writing if they are facing any problems in compliance of this Bylaw and find issues for amendment,” the notice reads.
The authority has requested service providers/stakeholders to provide their feedback within 30 days from the date of publication of the notice.
