Nepal Telecom, the government owned telecom operator has launched its 3G service in the beautiful Rara area. Rara is the largest fresh water lake in Mountainous region of Nepal, situated in Mugu District. It is one of the beautiful and remote places here in Nepal. Majority of tourists (both domestic and foreigners) visit Rara for the love of the nature and experience the wonderful travel.
Ntc announces of this 3G service in Rara Taal and Rara (Talcha) Airport, in a latest press meet organized in their office. Read more of other information in the press meet here.
Though GSM service (2G) was available there from long time, 3G service was quite felt missing. Lot of tourists have that urgency to send their photos to social medias and to their loved ones. That was quite not happening due to no coverage of 3G there.
Ntc 3G in Rara is now possible due to the operation of a new 3G Base station near Rara Lake. After this 3G service, we can imagine people sending live videos from the lake. Not only this experience, but having connectivity there can also enhance lots of opportunities there. Internet in Rara also has direct / indirect relation to the whole development of that area.
With the Ntc 3G in Rara, we can expect internet speed ranging in Mbps, depending on the coverage and the no of users.
Nepal is a heaven on earth, due to several beautiful places like Rara. But the connectivity there is not easy to realize due to the remoteness and huge cost involved in the infrastructure work.
We have been seeing lots of extension of Nepal Telecom 2G, 3G for remote places. That is possible due to installation of High capacity Microwave to all 75 districts. Previously, the transmission link can only be made through low capacity and expensive Satellite link.
If the infrastructures are extended to similar remote regions promptly, we can expect the launching of 4G LTE even in such areas.
Here is a Speed test result sent to us by Paras Devkota who is there in Rara now. The result shows 3.21 Mbps download and 1.52 Mbps upload, from HSPA+.
