The Chinese smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi unveiled two smartphones Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus at an event in Beijing, China today. These smartphones are the successor of Redmi 4. Redmi 4 gained lot of popularity and interest in Nepali smartphone market.
Two variants of Redmi 5 and 5 plus are somehow similar but there are some differences in the size of the screen, battery and the processor. Redmi 5 comes with the 5.7inch HD+ screen with the resolution of 720×1440 pixels and pixel density of 282 PPI. Similarly, Redmi 5 plus has a larger screen of 5.99 inches and boasts superior resolution. It has full-HD+ (1080×2160 pixels) display with a 403 PPI pixel density. Both of the phones come with 18:9 aspect ratio following the smartphone display trend of 2017 flagship phones.
As most of the Xiaomi phones, Redmi 5 and 5 plus are powered by processors form Snapdragon. Redmi 5 runs on top of octa-core Snapdragon 450 processor which clocks up to 1.8GHz. While 5 plus is equipped with octa-core Snapdragon 625 processor that clocks up to 2GHz. Both of the phones are available in two RAM variants. Redmi 5 is available in 2G and 3G of RAM whereas the Redmi 5 is available in 3GB and 4G of RAM.
Both smartphones run on Google’s Android 7.1.2(Nougat). They are available with updated MIUI 9 which makes the phone even better. They both share the same camera. 12 – megapixel shooter with a f/2.2 aperture in the rear and 5-megapixel front camera with selfie flash is available on the phone. There have been improvements in the camera section with the inclusion of Xiaomi’s own Beautify app, which makes portraits even better.

Price and Availability of Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 plus in Nepal
The price of Redmi 5 is 799 Chinese Yuan(CNY) which is approximately 12,500 Nepali rupees for the 2GB RAM|16GB Storage variant and 899 CNY which is 14,000 Nepali rupees for the 3GB | 32 GB variant. Whereas Redmi 5 Plus is available at 999 CNY (NPR 15,500) with 3GB RAM | 32GB Storage and 1299 CNY (NPR 20500) for 4GB RAM | 64GB storage. The price of Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 plus in Nepal will be little high (add extra 3 to 4 thousands in the above price). As known, the extra is for the transportation cost to send it to small market. The phones are also expected to launch soon in Nepali market.
