Nepal Telecom has officially launched the 4G network in 60 cities of 37 districts from Ashoj 15 Wednesday. As announced earlier, they have promised to deliver the high-speed data service to people before Dashain. Prime Minister himself inaugurated the Ntc 4G service by making a video conference call to the Chief Minister of all 7 provinces. Find the Ntc 4G speed, technologies, Ntc 4G offer and Coverage areas below.
Nepal Telecom organized the 4G soft launch program in the capital, while a similar program was also held in each province. Earlier their 4G network was only available in Kathmandu and Pokhara, launched back in 2017. Now, they have expanded the 4G coverage to the main city areas of all provinces. Those areas have higher business prospects for Ntc as those cities have got higher business activity and higher population density.
MoCIT Secretary/ Nepal Telecom Chairman Mr. Mahendra Man Gurung said that this expansion is not only for 4G but also be a base for the 5G network.
There was some technical glitch in mic performance during the video call. But the 4G speed test performed in the event overcome the flaw.
NTC 4G speed
Nepal Telecom showed their 4G speed test through an app that showed the data speed of 234 Mbps downlink and 24 Mbps uplink. As per the industry standard, this data speed is higher than a normal 4G speed due to the advanced technologies. Some even go further to say this speed matches 4.5G (4G +) mark but we shall only wait for the experience of 4G in those areas.
As we said early, a subscriber would not differentiate the data speed of higher than 15 Mbps as it would not affect their normal usage of browsing, streaming. We recommend people to use 4G and share their experience.
Expansion to whole Nepal
This current 4G expansion is possible with a new 4G LTE project, whose contract deal was made in February 2019. The new 4G LTE project had three separate projects among which the Core network is provided by ZTE Corporation. Similarly, for two of the radio network, CCSI HongKong is the supplier for Network 1 and Network 2 Projects.
After this first expansion of 4G LTE, Nepal Telecom expects to expand 4G to all areas within Feb 2020 which is the one-year target date. As of now, only 111 sites are on-aired but Ntc targets to complete all 6700 sites with that target.
If the 4G expands as per their plan, we believe this Ntc 4G project will be a stepping-stone for the realization of the “Digital Nepal” concept.
As Ntc uses two spectrum bands 1800 MHz and 800 MHz for their 4G network, their data speed excels over 200 Mbps for the peak throughput which is the capacity of a single tower. This is possible with an advanced LTE feature called Carrier Aggregation. If it’s too technical for you, we would like to tell you that the average 4G speed you could get from Ntc is around 15 to 20 Mbps. The 800 MHz spectrum having better propagation characteristics will be good for the 4G expansion in rural areas where people are dispersed throughout the different villages, un-even terrains.
As per Ntc MD, Nepal Telecom will soon launch VoLTE service for advanced voice calls.
