OPPO recently unveiled a continuous optical zoom lens for smartphones which some have claimed is a true leap for smartphone photography.

OPPO is a leading smartphone OEM that has pioneered new innovations to elevate the smartphone experience. Its periscope telephoto cameras and under-display cameras are commonplace and a requirement to many these days.

This time, the innovative brand unveiled yet another benchmark technology for smartphone photography – continuous optical zoom.

OPPO announced its latest smartphone camera flex at an event titled “Future Imaging Technology Launch Event” among others online. The Chinese brand has also revealed its next-gen under-display selfie camera.

OPPO’s telephoto lens with continuous optical zoom moves throughout the 85-200mm-equivalent zoom range. This means the images it is capturing are crisp at every focal length with no digital zoom or sharpening involved.

OPPO’s Continous Zoom Betters Others

If you remember, Vivo has also announced a similar product for Apex 2020 concept phone. But it comes with a monumental weakness. Its range is limited which is almost 130-195mm. Meanwhile, the OPPO module starts at 85mm. OPPO says using one camera across more focal lengths will translate into more consistent photography which would also result in better color balance.

The smartphone camera has come a long way and smartphone OEMs are desperate to stay top in the race. Huawei pioneered zooming capacities that nobody ever conceived achievable then OPPO and other brands have continuously dedicated themselves to improving cameras on smartphones.

OPPO customarily has a knack for announcing its innovations way before they come into smartphones. This time too, the company has not revealed when its continuous zoom lens will debut in the market. But the way, smartphones are gearing up to attain signature profile with the latest innovations, OPPO wouldn’t let up, that is for sure.
