Nepal Telecom (NTC) and the Ministry of Federal Affairs & General Administration (MoFAGA) have agreed to expand Ntc’s telephone and broadband services to all local government (ward levels) across Nepal. The state telco will collaborate with the government, MoFAGA at an institutional level to bring connectivity across the country.
Deputy Secretary of MoFAGA, Gopi Krishna Khanal, and NTC Managing Director Diliram Adhikari signed the agreement for the ambitious project.
With this multilateral cooperation, NTC (Nepal Telecom) will bring its telephone and broadband internet services to ward offices, health centers, community schools, and other government offices to all local levels.
MoFAGA will coordinate with interested local level entities and NTC to establish telecom services. The Ministry will gather data of offices that demand telephone and broadband services. Then, it will reach out to NTC and facilitate the installation of the services.
Similarly, the Ministry will utilize the Rural Telecommunications Development Funds (RTDF) and cooperate with NTC and local levels. Besides, it will assist in obtaining the Right of Way for service expansion at local levels.

NTC Broadband in Local Levels
As per the agreement, NTC will set up its telephone and broadband services in local level entities. This includes ward offices, health centers, community schools, and etc. NTC will be responsible for formulating and implementing the work plan for the project.
Meanwhile, NTC will provide free internet service for Web-Based Applications of local level websites and online services. For this, the telco will launch various packages. Likewise, it will cooperate to establish rural information centers and hardware-software management.

The telco will also play an active role to institutionalize Digital Nepal Framework and setting up infrastructures for many services.
Many in remote regions are still accessing voice call services through VSAT. NTC will take a lead to establish mobile broadband services in such areas with cooperation with telecom service providers.
