Aanchal Kunwar’s Appointment to Help with Localized Business Strategy
Daraz CEO/Founder Bjarke Mikkelsen confirmed the appointment and wrote about it on his LinkedIn account.
“I am thrilled to announce that after 15 years abroad, Aanchal Kunwar will be returning home to lead our team as the Managing Director of Nepal. Her appointment means that today, all our MDs across our five markets are locals of the countries they lead, which is in line with the localized business strategy.”
As we move forward into our next phase of growth, our focus is to create a greater sense of connectivity with our customers and sellers. I look forward to working with Aanchal, along with our other country MDs, to create more exploratory and personalized experiences for our users as they bring their local perspectives, experiences, and insights to continue to drive our business forward.”
Kunawar’a leadership comes amidst Daraz’s most lucrative period. The company has seen its biggest ever shopping sale on November 11 single sale day. Daraz Group is also aiming at doubling its retail volume in the next five years. Now she will take over the company that’s aiming for broader reach and expansion.
Aanchal Kunwar’s appointment as Daraz’s new MD could also set a new precedent in Nepal for females. The gender gap exists but her leading Daraz could set a stage for more women to embark into top management in Nepali’s business houses.
As known, she loves mountains and meditation. With the appointment, she has become the first female MD in the entire Daraz history.
