Samsung, one of the world’s leading consumer electronics and smartphone brands, has inaugurated its television (TV) factory in Nawalparasi, Nepal in collaboration with its longstanding partner in Nepal, Him Electronics.

It’s the first time such an iconic multinational company has established an electronic manufacturing facility in Nepal. The move, Samsung says, will have a major influence on the local economy.

Shri Ramesh Rijal, Hon’ble Minister of Industries, Commerce and Supplies, and Mr. JB Park, President & CEO of Samsung Southwest Asia inaugurated Samsung’s monumental facility in Nawalparasi.

At the opening ceremony were present Mr. Shekhar Golchha, Chairman & MD, Golchha Group, and Mr. Park Chong-Suk, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Nepal. Likewise, Mr. Sung June Park, Nepal Branch Head, Samsung Electronics, along with other local dignitaries graced the event.

The dominant tech giant laid the foundation for its television factory in Nawalparasi in August 2022.

“strengthen local industry and provide employment opportunities to people here”

Speaking at the function, Mr. JB Park, President & CEO, of Samsung Southwest Asia, expressed his delight at the facility’s opening. He said, “Samsung has had a long-standing relationship with the people of Nepal, having been in the country for over two decades. This new television factory with our partners Him Electronics will further deepen our bond with Nepal and underline the work we are doing to strengthen local industry and provide employment opportunities to people here. It will also facilitate the development of skilled manpower. We thank the Nepal Government and local authorities for their strong vision and continued support.”

“The cooperation with Samsung exhibits the potential the sector has in Nepal. The largest global electronics company has shown its deep-rooted interest in the Nepali market. This is a big indicator for us. With suitable policies to promote the sector, we can see many positive contributions to the national economy in terms of employment, value addition, and opportunities beyond national boundaries,” said Mr. Shekhar Golchha, Chairman & MD, of Golchha Group.
