The riveting cricket match between Nepal and the USA (World Cup Qualifier Match) has created record internet bandwidth consumption with the latest figure showing it reaching 81.46 Gbps, Internet Exchange Nepal (NPIX) reports. The milestone came during the fascinating match at the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier 2023 which Nepal eventually nailed.
As the match turned up the heat, internet bandwidth consumption also grew at a rapid pace as you can see in the official figure below. As users took to online streaming on smartphones, and laptops, and browsed for frequent updates, Nepal’s internet traffic shot through the roof during the thriller tie.
To compare, the average internet bandwidth is averaging just over 24 Gbps at the time of writing this post. The maximum it has hit is over 81 Gbps for June 20. It’s the highest internet bandwidth consumption to date.
In March 2023, the Nepal-UAE tie recorded over 60 Gbps of internet traffic. Similarly, the last FIFA Football World Cup 2022 final match between Argentina and France, raised internet traffic to 37 Gbps. These figures also consistently highlight how Nepal’s internet traffic soars sky-high during sporting events.
