Ncell says that its mobile network in some parts of Kathmandu and Lalitpur could be affected and go offline today (Saturday, Shrawan 06). The private operator has released a notice informing that its network might suffer an outage due to Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) switching off the power supply in some areas in the two cities mentioned above.
As in the notice, Ncell said that today NEA will cut off the power supply from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM for the upgradation work of Teku Substation. The lack of electricity won’t allow for the normal operation of its cell towers (base stations) which could result in service disruption.
Mobile networks go offline for various reasons such as issues with the infrastructure, power, and environmental reasons. Likewise, telcos do keep a battery backup for their cell tower operations. However, they can’t keep up with a longer duration of electricity shortage.
So, if you are a Ncell user and notice a network disconnection or poor signal coverage. Additionally, you may notice distorted voice calls, no call connection, and slow or non-functioning mobile data, among other possibilities. If any of these happens to you, then you can attribute it to power shortages at your nearby Ncell towers.
There are things you can resort to during network outages. Read in detail in our post: Causes of Mobile Network Outage And What You Should Do?
