Nepal Telecommunication Authority (NTA) has issued internet service providers (ISPs) a warning of strict action over their royalty payment delay. Releasing a notice with the list of service providers, the authority has sternly called on them to pay their royalty and RTDF (Rural Telecommunication Development Fund) soon as possible.
Nepal’s ISPs are subject to 4 percent royalty and 2 percent RTDF to NTA off their annual revenue. However, service providers haven’t fulfilled their payment duty for Fiscal Year FY 2078/79. The dues were to be filed by the end of Poush 2079.
NTA says that despite being called upon for payment time and again, ISPs didn’t comply.
Therefore, the regulatory body has directed service providers to pay their royalty and RTDF to the government and NTA by the end of Shrawan, 2080. Besides, the companies have been told to deposit the due amount clearly stating the Fiscal Year and their names. The authority has also ordered them to submit an original voucher for their deposit. The authority has strongly warned that ISPs will face strict action if they won’t make their payment this time.
Classic Tech and Subisy are on the list
In the notice, NTA listed a total of 48 ISPs who are to pay the amount in concern to the governing body. The list mentions many less familiar names. However, Classic Tech, and Subisu, two of the leading ISPs in Nepal have also made it to the undesirable list. By the list, we can judge that other prominent market leaders such as WorldLink, Vianet, and Dish Home FiberNet, duly paid their share to the government.

As per the latest MIS report for Chaitra, there are currently 63 licensed ISPs in Nepal.
