Fonepay Payment Service Ltd., Nepal’s Largest Payment Network, and NPCI International Payments Ltd (NIPL), the international arm of the National Payments Corporation of India, are prepared to launch a cross-border QR payment service between Nepal and India. This was revealed at the Global Fintech Fest 2023, an event that brings together fintech visionaries, thought leaders, and innovators.
The cooperation will empower millions of citizens from both sides of the border. The service allows instant mobile payment securely and conveniently through QR code scans at stores. FonePay says that such payments are performed at the stores through mobile applications certified by both FonePay and NPCI.
When will it launch?
As per FonePay and NPCI, they both are very close to launching the historical cross-border payment. Both have completed their operational preparations and technological integration is in the final phase. After this, companies can offer payment services to their issuing and acquiring members.
This remarkable large-scale cross-border payment will elevate fintech as well as promote the digital economy landscape between the two countries. It will likewise, give a big push to the digital payment ecosystem in both countries where electronic transactions are booming.
Cross-border Nepal-India QR payment will prove to be a major stepping stone for wider reach in the international market.
When the service commences, users from either side of the country can use digital wallets/mobile banking apps to pay.
