Huawei has sold 1.6 million units of its morale-boosting 5G phone Mate 60 Pro in six weeks since its release, as per a Counterpoint Research report. The incredible market transactions are a reflection of how the smartphone giant is restoring its clout in the business after seeing severe lows in recent years following US sanctions in 2019. More particularly, the Mate 60 Pro’s 7nm 5G chip has triggered speculations and shock and awe in the industry with many experts suggesting the ban on the Chinese tech ruler might become counterproductive.
The numbers are incredible. Huawei Mate 60 Pro was launched on August 29 and its sales are topping the charts. Out of the 1.6 million units, 400,000 of those were sold within the last two weeks. It’s the same period in which Apple brought its iPhone 15 series.
It’s reported that iPhone 15 sales took a hit by 4.5 percent in comparison to the iPhone 14. It may be a coincidence but it could also be a patriotic zeal among the Chinese smartphone users or the now-denied Chinese sanctions on iPhones for government officials. But the device is a 5G phone could have pushed many to buy the flagship device from Huawei that couldn’t launch any 5G-supported phone for long after tough US restrictions on technology.

Sales gone through the roof!
The device has no doubt been a massive hit with every unit going off the shelves soon after it arrives. Counterpoint senior analyst Ivan Lam says Mate 60 Pro’s sales have created an “appearance of perpetual unavailability.”
What’s also incredible is that the global smartphone market continues to struggle in the third quarter of 2023. At the same time, Huawei and Transsion Group have managed to stand out with year-on-year growth during the same period.

Huawei Mate 60 Pro is a triumph for the company
Mate 60 Pro is seen by many as a ground-breaking entry of Huawei into the premium smartphone segment. Since its launch, many have questioned and admired how Huawei delivered a 5G phone despite a heavy tech ban. The Mate 60 Pro features a HiSilicon Kirin 9000S processor built by SMIC using a 7nm process. The device’s CPU includes a 12-core setup and can reach the top speed of 2.62 gigahertz, AnTuTu says. Among other notable features are the 12GB RAM and a 5,000 mAh battery. The device runs on Huawei’s in-house smartphone operating system HarmonyOS 4.
While the chipset is still some years behind what we see from Samsung Qualcomm, and others, Huawei has proved that it can catch up with the trend and developments faster than many were expecting. You may want to read this: TSMC to Produce 3nm and 2nm chips
The last time Huawei launched a 5G-capable phone was the Mate 40 series which came out in October 2020. This used HiSilicon’s Kirin 9000 SoC. The latest model Mate 60 Pro, a 5G phone from the company in three years can reach 500 Mbps which is higher than that of 4G performance.
Huawei’s Mate 60 Pro launch was a sensation on the Chinese social site Weibo gaining 6 billion views. Likewise, the hashtag #HuaweiConferenceWithoutMentioningMobilePhones trended with 4.5 million views on the same social platform.
