What happened?
The Ncell mobile network was disrupted due to the breakage of optical fiber which happened as the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) was relocating its utility pole between Pokhara and Damauli road sections. As infrastructure-related works are ongoing, NEA is also shifting its poles but it’s also inadvertently causing issues in telecommunications services with fiber breakages.
If you didn’t know, mobile operators use optical fiber for their mobile networks which are laid both underground and aerial. Usually, they are safe from adverse conditions but can’t evade heavy construction work at times. Backup or redundant links can be employed to maintain the mobile network when such large outages occur.
The fiber cables connect Ncell’s data center in Pokhara. Following the breakage, the company’s mobile network had earlier faced major telecom outages and disruptions. Users couldn’t see Ncell signals and if shown, didn’t work normally. Likewise, Ncell to Ncell services were not connecting. However, it’s said that users were still able to place calls from Ncell to the Nepal Telecom (NT) network. Anyway, now, the cellular network should be well in function for Ncell users.
Mobile network issue is a big inconvenience to the users, but the company also bears huge financial losses. So, companies do ensure that their infrastructure is safe and well-designed to escape damages, but sometimes, they do suffer the incidents.
Ncel has officially stated that it has restored its cellular network. So, you should be able to use its services without any problems. If you are still seeing problems, we suggest that you restart your phone and see if everything works normally again.
