State-backed telecom company Nepal Telecom (NTC) has officially launched VoWiFi (WiFi Calling) service in Nepal. Communication Minister Prithvi Subba Gurung announced the launch of this Voice over WiFi communication technology on the occasion of the company’s 21st anniversary. The technology lets users make calls using their WiFi connection and enjoy HD voice. Here are all the details of Ntc WiFi Calling:
The service was already active for a while. But today, the company formally announced its commercial operation. Now, eligible Ntc users will be able to make calls inside and outside Nepal using a WiFi connection. According to the company, VoWiFi also lets users make calls and send SMS.
VoWiFi gives users an option to call without relying on mobile networks. If you live in areas where your nearest cell tower is far away and you don’t get strong signals, WiFi will now let you make calls.
Ntc VoWiFi unlocks HD voice
Ntc VoWiFi service enables HD voice facility for users just like VoLTE. Also, you can browse the web while being on a call which is not possible on 3G, 2G (but works on 4G VoLTE). Read our post to learn differences between VoWiFi and VoLTE
Thanks to HD voice quality, the audio will sound clearer and more audible. Once active, you should see VoWiFi on your phone’s notification bar. Here are the other signs and its meaning in mobile network.
Thankfully, I have already made calls using Ntc WiFi Calling. This is how it shows up when you use this feature.
How to activate VoWiFi in Ntc?
Unfortunately, VoWiFi requires carrier support and smartphone compatibility. Now, Ntc provides support, but users’ devices must also be compatible with WiFi Calling. You can go to your phone’s Settings > Mobile Networks > SIM Card > VoWiFi or something similar. The steps are similar on both Android and iPhones. If you see options such as VoWiFi or WiFi Calling, then it means your phone does support it.
Likewise, your phone must have VoLTE activated for VoWiFi to work. When these requirements are met, you can call any national and international number with Ntc VoWiFi service. Don’t miss: Nepal Telecom VoLTE activation process [2025]
Ntc VoWiFi tariffs and eligible smartphones
Nepal Telecom (NTC) charges VoWiFi calls in Nepal in the Pay As You Go (PAYG) format or treats it with the existing voice/SMS resources. But while using the service outside Nepal, incoming VoWiFi calls are free and outgoing costs Rs 3 per minute.
Ntc VoWiFi | Cost per minute |
Inside Nepal | Local call (Rs 1 per minute) |
Outside Nepal | Rs 3 |
At the moment, only select phones have VoWiFi capability. This includes some models of Samsung, Xiaomi, Tecno, iPhones, etc. The company says that support will be expanded to more devices very soon.

Conclusion
Nepal Telecom keeps bringing innovative technologies for users to improve customer experience. 4G, VoLTE, eSIM, and 5G in the near future are some of its milestones. The latest VoWiFi or WiFi Calling should also mean a great service for Ntc users as it provides HD voice and removes dependency on cell towers.
But we just hope that the company brings this service to more devices as soon as it promises.
