Youtube has enabled the conversion of long Youtube videos into shorts. The video-sharing platform giant is making it easier to make shorts of any videos on Youtube. The shorts have been Youtube’s answer to its competitor, Tiktok. So to further boost the shorts, it has now introduced a new tool called Edit into a Short, from which will an existing YouTube video can be turned into Shorts.
Convert Youtube Videos into Shorts
With the new feature, video creators can select a part of their long videos and turn it into shorts. The tool is available on both Android and iOS. So, this new option of editing into shorts lets you take 60 seconds of your uploaded video and share it as shorts. This has come after YouTube’s recent ability to convert vertical videos into Shorts if they are 60 seconds long.

Also, the shared shorts will also link to the full videos, thus providing a way of promotion for the creators. As a result, the main video will also gain more viewers. It’s a win-win situation for both shorts and the main video.
Youtube states, “Shorts created from VODs will link back to the original long-form videos so that people watching your Short can see the original video too”. The thing to note here is you as the original creator will only be able to import your long-form videos into Shorts whereas this feature won’t be available for other creators to use your content.”
Hence, users cannot remix shorts using other creators’ videos. However, they can add videos from their galleries if their uploaded videos are less than 60 seconds.

This feature is going to benefit the creators as well as the company in the competition. Tiktok has been the top downloaded app on the Playstore and it’s immensely popular all over. Youtube as a response, introduced shorts and also commenced monetization. With the new feature, creators can popularize their content and gain more views.
The update is on the way for public users and will launch globally very soon.
