Telecom regulator NTA has warned service providers against the auto renewal of VAS. Releasing a notice, the authority asked telecom companies to arrange for a condition where (Value Added Services) VAS won’t be renewed automatically.
The authority said that telecom companies must alert subscribers of VAS/services when their expiration date nears. It says that service providers must bear the expenses for such notifying services. Similarly, companies operating VAS must also seek responses from customers regarding their opinion on the renewal of VAS.
If users notify their service providers via SMS that they are willing to renew services, the companies must arrange for such a system. The notice also reminds companies not to auto-renew VAS on the customers who don’t reply or who wish not to continue services via SMS. NTA says it has alerted the companies regarding such a condition in the past.
