State-backed telecom company Nepal Telecom (NTC) has undertaken an initiative to provide free WiFi internet service at airports across Nepal. Reaching this milestone agreement with the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN), the company will now provide free internet at 34 airports in the country.
For this, Ntc and CAAN signed an MoU on Falgun 11, 2080. The agreement papers were signed by Binita Shrestha, Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) of Ntc, and Deputy General Director Jagannath Niraula of CAAN on behalf of their respective companies. This ground-breaking cooperation enables high-speed WiFi access for passengers, airport staff, and everybody at the airports helping them with connectivity.

Ntc, CAAN agree to provide free WiFi internet at 34 airports across Nepal
According to agreement papers, Nepal Telecom will establish a free Wi-Fi network in the arrival and departure halls of the international and domestic terminals of Tribhuvan International Airport. Likewise, the company will also operate the free Wi-Fi service in other airports operating within Nepal. The start of this service will proceed in phases, as per the company.
In addition, Ntc will set up an information and assistance room inside the airport to provide passengers with information about the company’s services. Such rooms will be established at the most convenient locations for the passengers. On the other hand, the Civil Aviation Authority will provide Ntc with suitable locations to set up equipment for WiFi service. It will also carry the responsibility of ensuring other arrangements for the implementation of this cooperation.

Earlier, the two reached an agreement to operate free WiFi at the Tribhuvan International Airport Customs Office. Now the free connectivity will expand to all locations of the airport. Ntc says that it expects its free WiFi service at airports to benefit passengers.
Being a state telecom service provider, Ntc gives more priority to service than revenue growth. Currently, the company is progressively working on 4G, and fiber expansion and copper to fiber upgrade/migration works around the country.
