Purple recently stepped into the Bluetooth speaker segment. The new Purple PBS-001 TWS speaker is the first addition by the company in the segment. A part of Sharada Group, Purple is a Nepal-based company offering reasonably priced smartwatches, TWS buds, and Bluetooth speakers. But how is the audio performance and battery life? Let’s find out in our Purple PBS-001 Bluetooth Speaker review article.
Purple PBS-001 Bluetooth Speaker Review
Design
Let’s start with the design first. The PBS-001 boasts a circular design with speaker grills on the top. The grills have a specific pattern and the speaker weighs 240 grams. Talking of the size, it is easy to carry but you do need a larger pocket. I found the build quality to be quite good.
On the bottom side, the speaker greets you with a bunch of buttons. There is a power key alongside the play/pause button, volume up, and volume down buttons. Also, the tactile feedback is not satisfactory in my unit. Some keys do not feel clicky enough to give you a clicking vibe. Rest apart, the design gets no complaints at all. For charging, it uses a USB-C port.

Connectivity and Controls
The speaker relies on Bluetooth 5.0 technology to connect and interact with a smartphone or a computer/laptop. The pairing process is quite simple. You can just turn on the speaker and it will be shown on your smartphone. After that, it automatically connects to the last paired device. The power button doubles as a call receiver, and with a built-in mic, you can talk with your speaker as well. But the volume buttons do not double as a music navigator.

Audio Quality
Considering its price tag of Rs.2,799, the sound quality is pretty decent. The circular design is good for the music output here. In my usage, I found the speaker to have a loud sound which is enough for a room. The speaker can be a nice choice for casual listeners, if not for music enthusiasts. Well, you cant expect superb bass from a budget speaker though. It is on the flat side, to be honest. Moreover, even at high volumes, there is very less distortion. It can also be a good speaker for small outdoor picnics and hiking.
Battery Life
According to the company, the 800mAh battery can cater to up to 4 hours of music playback on a single charge. I usually got more than the same amount of battery backup while keeping the volume less than 70%. While playing at full volume, the battery might suffice for only 3 hours or so. Overall, the backup seems okay for the price. I didn’t find any problems with the battery backup on this. While the charging takes 3 hours via the USB-C port.
Conclusion
Coming to the conclusion, Purple PBS-001 Bluetooth Speaker is a decent choice in the budget segment. For casual users, it is more than enough at that price. The design seems well-built except for the buttons, which do not have great tactile feedback. Connectivity with Bluetooth 5.0 is quick and reliable. Reconnecting to the speaker is also hassle-free.
All in all, the battery backup is also satisfactory and the audio output is great for indoor usage. As mentioned earlier, you can also take this for short hikes and outings. The company is also providing one year warranty which is great. If you are looking for a good TWS speaker under Rs.3000, this one is a reliable choice.
