Samsung launched its first smart ring product- Galaxy Ring at its Galaxy Unpacked event on Wednesday, July 10, 2024. The product marks the company’s bold entry into the smart ring industry and sees itself in competition with Oura and maybe Apple in the near future. The titanium-built Galaxy Ring can track various health measurements such as sleep and heart rate as well as predict the menstrual cycle for women.
Samsung‘s Galaxy Ring could be an alternative for those who want a minimalistic wearable device to keep track of their well-being and not a “large” smartwatch. For now, Samsung’s pioneering ring has an Oura Ring Generation 3 for competition while many are also speculating that an Apple ring is also on the way. For now, we limit the discussion to the Galaxy Ring and its features.
During its latest Galaxy Unpacked event, Samsung also unveiled Galxy Z Fold6 and Galaxy Z Flip6 devices
Overview
Samsung’s Galaxy Ring, a wearable product that’s designed to track health status as well as fitness levels is the brand’s serious go at the growing smart ring market. The brand’s ring is powered by Galaxy AI and has several capacities that transcend what a mere smart ring can do. It can track your steps, heart rate, menstrual cycle, as well as walking and running steps.
The smart ring pairs with the Galaxy Wearable app while the health feeds are displayed on the Samsung Health app on Samsung mobile phones.
The ring is minimalistic and has a different design path which makes it scratch-resistant and less prone to wear and tear. If you are not into a smartwatch, well then, the smaller fashionable ring could be your pick. Modern rings can not just be jewelry, but also a technologically advanced gadget.
Here are the major specifications, features, and functions and also the expected price of the Samsung Galaxy Ring in Nepal.
Design
The Samsung Galaxy Ring sports a concave shape which contrasts with others that are mostly curved. So, it doesn’t bulge out on the finger you wear. For example, the Oura Ring Generation 3 comes in a convex body form.
The Samsung Galaxy Ring comes in sizes 5 to 13 weighing 2.3 grams to 3 grams. Keep a note: The larger the ring is, the larger the battery, and more lasting capacity. Underneath, there are three infrared sensors perfectly fitted so they easily come into contact with the skin and start monitoring users’ health metrics.
Samsung says that the design helps keep away possible scratches and frictions on its surface it may encounter daily. Similarly, the ring has raised edges which give it unorthodox looks but they make it look sporty and trendier. It’s IP68 water and dust-resistant so you can wear it while swimming or during rain.

Performance: Health and fitness tracking to predict menstrual cycle
The Samsung Galaxy Ring serves to be an excellent health tracker from keeping a check on sleep patterns to pulse reading and counting walking and running steps. The ring leverages the Galaxy AI algorithms to analyze your sleep health. It also calculates the data from your sleep, pulse, and steps from the previous day using Energy Score.
The ring also issues advice if needed. Suppose that you remain passive for a while, the ring then suggests that you need to make some movements from the insights it gathers and evaluates, and it also advises you to take a little rest if you are giving it too much.
Besides, the smart ring automatically tracks your blood oxygen levels too. You can likewise, add food, water, and medications manually to generate holistic data of your current health condition. Despite being a health tracker, the ring includes automatic tracking of footsteps, but swimming cycling, and other similar activities won’t be tracked.
Period tracking is becoming popular these days and thankfully, Samsung has embedded this feature in its ring too. Yes, the Galaxy Ring predicts the menstrual cycle based on the users’ overnight skin temperature. It estimates women’s fertile window, ovulation, and when the next period might begin.
While Galaxy Ring performs similarly to the Watch, they work together. You can check your data from both wearables on your Samsung phone or any Android that lets you download the Samsung Health app. Samsung even says that using a Watch simultaneously improves battery health by up to 30%.
Connectivity
The Samsung Galaxy Ring offers seamless pairing with the Galaxy Wearable app and the Samsung Health app for health updates. In addition to getting health updates on the paired device, the ring also lets you perform some functions with gestures. For this, you require a Samsung phone or any phone that allows the above-mentioned app download.
By pinching on the ring, you can trigger the shutter while the same gesture also lets you snap a photo or snooze an alarm. Of course, these require you to have a Galaxy phone.

Size kit to check your best ring size
To make it convenient to choose your right ring size, Samsung provides a sizing kit that comes with sample rings to try on your fingers. You can order your sizing kit from Samsung online before you pre-book the Galaxy Ring. Once you confirm your best ring size, you can then order the product from Samsung.
The company recommends that you use the ring for 24 hours before you can determine your perfect ring size. That gives you plenty of time to conclude that your chosen size is the best for you. The feature though is very helpful is not available in Nepal as pre-booing is limited to select regions for now.
Battery and charging
Samsung says that its Galaxy Ring can last for a week at least continuously tracking your health updates. Additionally, Samsung has done something innovative with its Galaxy Ring for charging. The company offers a nodule inside a stylist cradle which has its own battery. Ring a bell? Just like earbuds.
This box can be charged wired and wirelessly. The ring serves for up to 14 days “with a full cradle charging”, Samsung claims. The cradle is transparent and the LED lights let you know the ring’s charging status.
Similarly, this cradle has some aesthetic functions. When you open the case, a welcome light blinks, and a short press lets you check the battery level. Likewise, giving it a long press for 3 seconds lets you start the pairing mode.

Our Verdict
Samsung has commercially ventured with its serious Galaxy Ring product and it looks to be a promising start. It’s functional, stylish, and innovative too. However, there are some areas that might draw shortcomings of some sort. The Galaxy Smart Ring only works with Samsung mobile phones or some Android.
Also generally, smart rings don’t come with their own native display, at least as of now, they need a mobile app to get the updates rendering on a smartphone. So, some might see it as limiting in functionality. But the ring’s actual value lies in minimalism, smart utility, and productivity.
