Sangita Pahadi has been appointed the new Managing Director (MD) of Nepal Telecom aka Ntc on Thursday, Bhadra 20, 2081 (September 5, 2024)]. A cabinet meeting of the government led by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli decided to elevate her to the post of full-time MD for the government-backed telecom giant. And today on Sunday, Bhadra 23, 2081 (September 08, 2024), she has officially assumed her office starting a 4-year incumbency. The development is great news to NT as Mrs. Pahadi is a long-serving employee from within the company.
Earlier, Mrs. Pahadi was among the applicants to apply for the post under the previous government of Pushpa Kamal Dahal. She had also made it to the three shortlisted candidates as recommended by the committee under the coordination of former MoCIT Secretary Ramkrishna Subedi. She shared the shortlist with other candidates Anil Jha and Bimal Acharya.
Likewise, the current Communication Minister Prithvi Subba Gurung took the same three candidates’ list to the cabinet. In a remarkable decision, the current government led by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli then appointed her for the MD post. Her appointment marks a reference point for women at top-ranking posts in Nepal.
The company’s employees and trade unions had also long demanded that the MD must be someone who is already serving at a high-ranking post at the company.

Mrs. Pahadi boasts three decades of experience in telecommunications
Mrs. Pahadi was appointed Acting MD of the company on Ashoj 17, 2080 replacing Sunil Paudel following the latter’s suspension in the National Payment Gateway scandal. After her initial appointment, the company expressed its delight over having the leadership from someone within the company itself. Paudel was not an employee of Nepal Telecom, but the government chose him after meeting the criteria back then.

The newly appointed MD took office to a warm welcome from the company’s employees. Expressing her delight, the MD extended her gratitude to the government for the trust and goodwill shown for her appointment. Likewise, she conveyed her commitment to use her full energy to take the organization to greater heights by keeping the dignity of the position and everyone’s trust in her as a top priority.
Challenges and opportunities
Sangita Pahadi’s appointment as Ntc MD comes at a pressing time but can also bring some opportunities. First, NT has recently obtained a license for its GSM Cellular service for five years. So, there is no issue at the company regarding its licensing, at least for the next five years. Second, the company can now focus on extending its 4G services with more stability at all local levels.
The company is also in advanced plans to commercialize the 5G network in major cities soon. So, during her tenure, there could be some tangible progress to see on 5G. Additionally, the company will also have work to do on quality for FTTH fiber internet services despite its recent launch across 77 districts. The major challenges would be to reverse the declining revenue and improve service quality across the country.
In essence, Mrs. Pahadi will see a unique mix of challenges and opportunities in the post. The telecom industry is running through hard times and being a national enterprise, NT’s role will be extremely crucial to lift the industry and also convey customer satisfaction with high-quality services.
Nepalitelecom.com heartily extends congratulations to Mrs. Sangita Pahadi on starting her tenure as the Managing Director (MD) of Nepal Telecom and wishes her a successful tenure.
