Nepal Telecom, the pioneer telecom operator is all set to commercialize the WiFi hot spot service which has been available freely from quite a time in some areas of Kathmandu. With the expansion of the WiFi coverage to several other areas and the approval of the tariff on time basis, the service can now be accessed by getting a password valid for one hour from NT GSM mobiles. To use the WiFi service, you have to send a message WiFi to 1416 from a NT GSM prepaid and Postpaid mobile, then you will get a password reply from 1416. After connecting your device to the available NT WiFi wireless, you have to browse any website and put the username(your mobile number) and password (that you have got from 1416) in the web page that appears. Then you can surf the internet for one hour with that password.
The service is available for free till Falgun 22, after which your mobile balance will be deducted at Rs 10 per hour.
Here are the areas in which the NT WiFi has been made available so far.
Dharhara Area (Sundhara), Gongabu Buspark, Lazimpat Chowk (North Gate), Naya Baneshwor Chowk, Advanced Engineering College(Gusingal and vicinity), ACME Engineering College(Sitapaila Chowk and vicinity), Helping Hand Community Hospital (Chabahil), Vayodha Hospital (Balkhu), Star Hospital (Balkhu), Neco Nepal Man Mohan Memorial Medical College, Kathmandu Engineering College (Kalimati), Narsingh Chowk Thamel, Bir Hospital, Gangalal Hospital, Teaching Hospital, Kathmandu Medical College (Sinamangal), KesharMahal Chowk (Narayanhiti), Patan Hospital, Lalitpur Chamber of Commerce & Industry (Mangal bazar) and Vicinity.
Meanwhile it is known that the WiFi coverage is being expanded to other areas as well including major political parties offices, Temple areas, Universities, Parks and major tourist destinations. NT informs that the WiFi service will also be made available in all other parts of the country.
