Ncell has won two GBO (Global Business Outlook) Awards lifting the Nepali brand’s name among globally celebrated companies. Besides, the telco has also been shortlisted for WCA (World Communications Awards) 2021.
Ncell has received the ‘Most Socially Responsible Telecom Company’ award in the telecommunications category by the popular magazine GBO. The company’s CEO Andy Chong also bagged ‘the Telecom CEO of the Year’ under the leadership category of the GBO Awards.
Global Business Outlook shortly GBO Awards honors businesses for their excellent performance across a year. The popular magazine recognizes companies and personalities from various sectors such as banking, finance, real estate, telecom, and aviation among others. Annually, the companies with the most creative and innovative practices receive honors for their value creation at a local, regional, and international level.

GBO Awards: Ncell Awaits More Recognition
Besides the prestigious GBO Awards, Ncell has also become the candidate for two other awards under the category; ‘The Social Contribution Award’ and ‘Crisis Response Award’ at the World Communications Awards (WCA) 2021.
Ncell actively engages in social causes and remains a frontline company to aid the Nepalese communications sector. Since COVID-19 lockdowns, Ncell has demonstrated its strong zeal for its social duties as well as ruthless efficiency in connectivity.
The winners will be public during the Total Telecom Congress event on 26-27 October 2021 in London.

Ncell is also vying for the Global Carrier Awards (GCA) 2021 for migrant outreach campaigns under ‘Best Social Media Campaign. The results for the winners will be out this coming October 2021 at GCA 2021 event in London.
Andy Chong who received the Telecom CEO of the Year award expressed his delight and gratitude at the recognition. He said the company is proud to have made “significant contributions in the community where we operate as a responsible corporate citizen”. With a focus on major areas including education, health, and the environment that support Nepal in development and achieving SDGs, we have so far invested over Rs. 1.40 billion in social projects and our commitment to sustainability is in our DNA,” he said.
“Our achievements are shaped by the strength of the foundations we have put in place, and I would like to thank our employees for their commitment to excellence”, he added.
Chong’s Driving Ncell’s Affluent Path
Ncell has always been a leading corporation in its social contributions. Led by Chong, Ncell has driven CSR as moral responsibility. Chong joined Ncell as CEO/MD in November 2019. He possesses 30 years of experience in diverse industries, namely, telecommunications, IT/technology, and electronics. Despite the threat of COVID-19, the telco and its employees were strongly motivated to serve during the hard times in supporting the public and the government.
Chong’s leadership has built an empathetic culture at Ncell. He has achieved recognition for being motivating to his employees, working with a sense of purpose, and pursue a mission, building a strong work ethic at the company.

Digitalization has been a key purpose under CEO Andy Chong. The company aspires to become a more resilient digital service operator by 2025. Chong Inspiring Strong Work Ethics at Ncell
Chong has also stressed people’s development at Ncell with emphasis on systematic and extensive programs. The ethos is in line with Axiata’s belief in people’s growth along with business to get the best out of human resources. Chong has endorsed the idea of ‘Collective Brain” where teams at both group and local level define collectively what is good for the company.
Chong, a seasoned professional has worked at top management positions in Malaysia, Singapore, and Indonesia. He has led business growth in providing strategic direction in sales and marketing, technical and operations, and finance.
Chong joined Axiata Group in 2008 and held the position of SVP and Head of Group Marketing & Marketing and Operations until 2014. He joined Ncell as Chief Commercial Officer followed by CEO/MD in November 2019. Chong holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Electronics and Computer Systems) and MBA (General Management) from Monash University, Australia.
